Science behind it
The Chilean Earthquake was the strongest earthquake recorded, on the Richter scale is measured to a horrific 9.5 and every step on the scale is a tenfold increase in earthquake power. It was enormous and caused destruction any which way it turned.
How did this Earthquake happen?
This earthquake happened 60 meters below sea level and 100 miles off the coast of Chile which was the location of the epicentre which is the point just above the hyocenter. It is were this tremendous earthquake began. The ground along ether side of a fault moves, this causes stress from the movement of the tectonic plates. The fault-displacement of this earthquake happened by the subduction of the Nazca plate going under the South American plate. When the Nazca plate is sub-ducting it gets suck and that creates energy or stress that is trapped and this energy or stressed will get released which then forms an earthquake. While this Nazca plate is melting away under the South American plate, Chile will continue getting earthquakes.
TsunamiThe earthquake trimmed a tsunami that pushed buildings from their foundations and drowned many people. The tsunami that was generated by the earthquake it did not just cause destruction to Chile, it also swept across the Pacific at 200miles per/hour. It destructed everything in it's path and did not leave a stone unturned. The tsunami hit Hawaii, Japan, Philippines, Southern New Zealand and South-eastern Australia.
